Oasis MTV Unplugged acoustic guitar sells for record ยฃ226,800
An acoustic guitar played by Noel Gallagher at Oasis’s 1996 MTV Unplugged gig, and signed by him, has sold at auction for ยฃ226,800 setting a “world record”.
Hertfordshire-based Propstore said it was the “highest price achieved at auction for an Oasis acoustic guitar”.
It also sold a Yamaha C3 Grand Piano, for ยฃ81,900 which was used by Freddie Mercury to compose Crazy Little Thing Called Love. It was expected to sell for at least ยฃ200,000.
On the first day of its Music Live Auction on Thursday, the highest-selling lot was a notebook by the Queen frontman which contained handwritten working lyrics and notes from the Mr. Bad Guy recording sessions. It sold for ยฃ277,200.
Mark Hochman, the company’s music specialist, said: “Setting a world record with Noel Gallagher’s MTV Unplugged guitar is a fantastic result and a testament to the lasting connection fans have with Oasis.
“These results show how much collectors value pieces with a personal connection to the artists and their music.”
