Parts of Manhattan covered in black smoke after apartment fire leads to massive emergency response

The New York City Fire Department is responding to a roof fire at a seven-story Upper East Side apartment building at East 95th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan.

A third-alarm fire, reportedly caused by gas fumes in the basement, injured the superintendent, who is receiving treatment for minor injuries, ABC 7 reports.

Over 100 personnel are on site for the blaze that was reported around 10 a.m. on Friday.

Residents should expect smoke and traffic delays in the area, per officials. They should also avoid the smoke and close any windows.
