PMQs chaos as Reform MPs walk out after Nigel Farage question | Politics | News
Reform UK MPs sensationally walked out of PMQs after Nigel Farage grilled Sir Keir Starmer on the small boats crisis. The Reform leader accused the Prime Minister of a “total abject failure” over Channel crossings after more migrants made the dangerous journey this week.
But Reform’s MPs stormed out of the Commons chamber just after Sir Keir’s reply as they accused him of not properly answering the question.
Mr Farage said: “Smash the gangs โ that is what the Prime Minister promised us, but 70,000 later and 1,000 in the last week and too many young men that pose a threat to national security.
“Is it not time to admit that smash the gangs has been a total abject failure, along, frankly, with most of his other policies? And isn’t it now time he told us, as summer approaches, what is plan B?”
Sir Keir replied: “This is from the man of the party that voted against giving law enforcement counter-terrorism style powers to tackle them. So he wants the grievance, he doesn’t want it sorted.
“He has absolutely no judgement. He said let’s join the war, a week later screeching U-turn, and he says trust his judgement.
“It’s hard to take anything he says seriously. He promised lower tax and now Reform councils are hiking council tax by 9%.
“In Worcestershire, he said ‘we took control of a virtually bankrupt council, I wish we hadn’t bothered’.
“He asks for people’s votes, and then he abandons them. Reform don’t want to solve problems, they only want to exploit them. He’s an absolute disgrace.”
Reform’s MPs sparked chaos as they left the chamber moments later, with other politicians jeering and shouting “bye” as they exited.
The Prime Minister, who was answering another question which made reference to the deal to keep the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible in Sheffield, said: “I see Reform have walked out. They obviously realise they are absolutely snookered.”
In a post on X afterwards, Mr Farage said: “Starmerโs promise to smash the gangs is an abject failure. A bit like his ability to actually answer the question.”
Reform deputy leader Richard Tice said the walkout was a “demonstration of fury on behalf of tens of millions of British people that the Prime Minister will not answer a serious question”.
He told GB News: “We’re just furious. It’s ridiculous. Nigel asked a very serious question about something of great concern to tens of millions of British citizens, about the fact that the smashing the gangs policy for the illegal migrants has completely failed.
“We’re sick of it. It’s the second time in a row the Prime Minister has refused to answer a question.
“The whole point is – the clue’s in the name, it’s called Prime Minister’s Questions.”
Asked about the Reform walkout, Kemi Badenoch’s official spokesman said: “If MPs felt the need to leave the chamber every time they didn’t like the Prime Minister’s answer then we would have a very empty Parliament.”
The Tory leader had hit out at the PM for not answering questions properly when she grilled him.
It comes after Mr Farage previously staged protests over not being given enough opportunities to ask Sir Keir questions during the weekly sessions as the PM regularly takes aim at Reform and he is unable to respond.
