Politics LIVE: Angela Rayner turns against Keir Starmer | Politics | News

Angela Rayner hinted Keir Starmer should be replaced as Labour leader because he is so unpopular. The former Deputy Prime Minister said it is โ€œhard to escape the feeling the public haveโ€ towards the Prime Minister.

Ms Rayner was answering a question about whether it is too late for Labour to regain votersโ€™ trust under Sir Keir.

She said: โ€œI don’t think it’s too late for the Labour Party to deliver that, and that’s a different question. I know I’m not answering your question directly. I think that it’s hard to escape the feeling that the public have had towards Keir.

“But I do think that there is an opportunity for us to say we’re listening, and this is crucial. People need to see that the Labour Party are listening and that they’re on their side. I think that’s the challenge for us, because they’ve been very loud and clear in what they’ve said to us on the doorstep, and it’s now our opportunity to listen to that.”

It follows former Health Secretary Wes Streeting demanding that Sir Keir set out a timetable for his departure.

Meanwhile, Sir Keir will miss PMQs at Westminster today because he is at the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, in France. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy is expected to fill in for him.
