Reform UK leader Nigel Farage is set to meet Donald Trump today, as the President’s relationship with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer lies in tatters.

The topic of the meeting is the UK’s Chagos Islands “surrender”, after the President condemned Labour’s plans to hand the islands, including a major military base in Diego Garcia, to Mauritius. But the ongoing war against Iran is also expected to come up. The pair will talk at Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

Mr Trump has repeated his assertion that Britain’s response has been “very disappointing” and that it should be allowing America to use its bases “without question or hesitation”.

Sir Keir has tried to limit British involvement in the conflict but, on Sunday, decided that the joint UK-US Diego Garcia site and RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire could be used by the US for “defensive” strikes to protect countries being targeted by Tehran.

However, the decision not to grant permission for the first wave of military action prompted anger from Mr Trump, who said he was “not happy with the UK” and, in a personal attack on the Prime Minister, added: “This is not Winston Churchill that we’re dealing with.”
