Rachel Reeves launches furious attack on Trump over Iran war – ‘I’m angry’ | Politics | News

Rachel Reeves has said she is “angry” with Donald Trump over the Iran war. The Chancellor hit out at the US President for launching the conflict without a “clear plan” to end it.

She told BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine: โ€œI’m angry that Donald Trump has chosen to go to war in the Middle East โ€“ a war that there’s not a clear plan of how to get out of.”

It comes as the Middle East crisis, which has put strain on the relationship with the US, has pushed up fuel and energy costs for Britons.

Sir Keir Starmer warned at a Downing Street press conference this morning that the war will “affect the future of our country”.

But he sought to reassure people that there would be a “long-term plan” in place to emerge a “stronger and more secure nation”

He said “It is now clear that the impact of this war will affect the future of our country.

“So, today, I want to reassure the British people that no matter how fierce this storm, we are well-placed to weather it and that we have a long-term plan to emerge from it a stronger and more secure nation.”

Sir Keir also defended Nato after Mr Trump said he is considering pulling the US out of the military alliance after allies failed to join the Iran strikes.

It comes after the US President yesterday told Britain to “go and get your own oil”.

He wrote on Truth Social: “All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.

“You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us.

“Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”
