Real Madrid eliminate 10-man Manchester City after Vinicius Jrโ€™s double: Live updates and reaction

It’s funny how football works.

The City fans did not seem to be especially hopeful or, dare I say, united ahead of this match, largely thanks to the defeat last week and the draw at West Ham. But even in defeat here the team and players seem to have emerged closer together.

A sense of injustice has probably helped that, as well as the antics of arch villain Vinicius Jr, who tried to rile the crowd all night despite his glut of missed chances, but the efforts of the City players have not gone unnoticed.

It might be a stretch to say that they go out with their heads held high, given the manner of the defeat last week, but they certainly gave a good account for themselves and I believe that bodes well for their future.
