Revenge on the mind for Borussia Dortmund?
Real Madrid qualified for the Club World Cup by winning the 2024 Champions League final at Wembley, against tonightโs opponents Borussia Dortmund.
Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr scored the goals as Real Madrid won their 14th European Cup. It was the second time Dortmund had lost a final at Wembley, following their 2013 defeat to Bayern Munich.
These teams also met last season in the Champions League league phase. Dortmund led 2-0 at the Bernabeu but Madrid roared back in typical fashion to win 5-2 and deny Dortmund their revenge.

Last time out: Dortmund beat Monterrey in thriller
Borussia Dortmund held off a stirring second-half fightback from Monterrey to complete the Club World Cup quarter-final line-up with a 2-1 win in a round-of-16 thriller.
Clinical finishes from Serhou Guirassy in the 14th and 24th minutes put Dortmund on top at the break but German Berterame hit back for Monterrey in the 48th minute and the Mexican club pressed for an equaliser until the final whistle. The Dortmund defence held firm, however, to set up a last-eight meeting with 15-time European champions Real Madrid in New Jersey.

Trent Alexander-Arnold remembers Diogo Jota
Itโs been a difficult week for the football world after the death of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, but former Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold was left heartbroken by the passing of his team-mate.
“Itโs so difficult to find the right words when your head and heart are struggling to accept that someone you care so much about has gone,” Alexander-Arnold posted on Thursday night.
“Diogo, your family was your world. They were everything. For Rute, his children, and his parents, all of our hearts are broken. And for Andre as well. Brothers and best friends.”When itโs less painful, I want to remember Diogo with a big smile.
“So many laughs and happy moments. He was such a great teammate and a true friend.”Forever number 20. Rest in peace, Diogo.”

Last time out: Trent Alexander-Arnold sets up first Real Madrid goal
Real Madrid hit their stride at the Club World Cup on Tuesday, edging Juventus 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals thanks to a second-half strike from academy graduate Gonzalo Garcia as Kylian Mbappe made his tournament debut.
Garcia, deputising for Mbappe after the France forward missed the group stage due to gastroenteritis, found the back of the net early in the second half to set up a meeting with either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey.
Garcia headed home from Trent Alexander Arnold’s pin-point cross in the 54th minute for his third goal in the tournament.
