Reeves warned against shackling UK to EU in ‘great Brexit betrayal | Politics | News
Rachel Reeves’s management of the British economy has been a complete disaster.
She’s raised taxes, increased borrowing, all the while stalling growth and piling on pressure to the cost-of-living crisis.
Meanwhile, her decisions to raise business rates and fiddle with inheritance tax rules on farms have consigned the livelihoods of millions of hard-working people to the dustbin.
It means you are working harder and getting less. Itโs just not right.
Now, hot on the heels of kowtowing to communist China and in a desperate roll of the dice, she wants to disregard the largest single democratic vote in British history by pulling us back into the European Union, claiming it represents our best opportunity for higher economic growth.
By looking to Brussels’ overblown bureaucrats to save her skin, Ms Reeves is admitting she has absolutely no confidence in pursuing an independent economic strategy.
Like most of her frontbench colleagues, she wants to trade sovereignty for subservience. They have less courage combined than the cowardly lion from The Wizard of Oz.
By once again shackling us to the European Union, the Chancellor is deceiving the millions of British people who voted to leave. The great Brexit betrayal is under way.
One of the main benefits of Brexit was that Britain would achieve economic independence by setting our own laws, controlling our own borders and determining our own trade policy outside the framework of the EU.
Re-entering negotiations with Brussels will not only bring us back under its control but also almost certainly under worse terms than when we were members.
We will become a rule-taker, not a rule-maker.
Besides, Europe is on its knees. It’s a no-growth zone.
In France, unemployment now stands just shy of 8%. Germany, once considered Europe’s economic powerhouse, currently resides in the doldrums.
Why are we re-shackling ourselves to a stagnating continent that wants to punish us for pursuing our birthright of self-governance? It’s pure economic madness.
We should be taking advantage of our Brexit freedoms, slashing red tape and forging new independent trade deals and helping you keep more of your own money.
Instead, Rachel Reeves is hellbent on dragging us closer to a failing power and economic ruin.
