Richard Tice in tears as he pays tribute to Ann Widdecombe | UK | News

Lee Anderson has said he and Reform UK want justice for Ann Widdecombe after she was killed in her own home last Wednesday. The MP told the Express after laying flowers for the firebrand politician that Ms Widdecombe was like a “headteacher”.

She was found dead inside her house in the remote village of Haytor Vale in Devon on Thursday. Mr Anderson visited the scene today (Sunday) with Richard Tice, Zia Yusuf and Danny Kruger “That’s what she was like,” the Ashfield MP said.

“She came across as strict but caring and didn’t suffer fools gladly, would call a spade a spade, and you knew exactly where you stood with her. And I would say she was a political warrior; she was fearsome, a great lady, a kind lady and… when you were in her presence, you stood up, put your shoulders back and watched your lip.”

When asked about the horrific manner in which Ms Widdecombe, who served as a Conservative minister and Brexit Party MEP, died, he said. “I don’t want to think about it on a day like today, to be honest.

“This is about celebrating Ann’s life and mourning and grieving for the people of this community and ourselves.”

Mr Anderson added “Of course we want justice.”

In a speech to Reform members at the Moorland Hotel with tears in his eyes, Mr Tice said: “We have lost an absolute colossus; a legend in all our lifetime.

“Ann Widdecombe was unique. She was adored by millions. She was treasured by millions, including my late mum.”

He added: “We’ve lost something extraordinary. The Scottish whiskey industry has also lost a friend.”

Mr Tice called for the creation of a limited edition called “Widders Whiskey”, with tasting notes along the lines of “unique, unforgettable flavours – a special, very special, series of fiery, spicy, but reliable tones.

“A treasured blend to be enjoyed to eternity.”

Police investigating the murder of Ms Widdecombe have said they โ€œare not looking for anyone elseโ€ after making an arrest late last night.

Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said a 28-year-old white British man was arrested on suspicion of murder in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, shortly after 9pm on Saturday with the support of Counter Terrorism Police.

He told reporters on Sunday: โ€œAt this point, there is still no information to suggest that this is a terrorism-related incident and at this point we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this murder.

โ€œAt this stage, there is nothing to suggest that it was politically motivated.โ€

He said detectives โ€œremain open-minded about the potential motiveโ€ and stressed it is not believed there is any threat to the wider public.

He added: โ€œWe are aware of online and public speculation, particularly with regards to motive.

โ€œAgain, I urge people not to share or engage with that speculation โ€“ itโ€™s unhelpful, it doesnโ€™t aid our investigation, and particularly, itโ€™s distressing to the family and friends of Miss Widdecombe.โ€
