Sir Rod Stewart issues six-word Glastonbury statement after backing Farage | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV
Sir Rod Stewart, 80, has issued a six-word statement to his legion of followers ahead of his highly anticipated Glastonbury performance tomorrow afternoon. Taking to Instagram this afternoon, the rocker shared a series of clips from his concerts over the years with the well-loved song Forever Young playing in the background.
The Sailing singer captioned the video montage: “@glastofest Tomorrow. Whoโs coming along for the ride?” The post sparked a frenzy among his 1.5million followers who were quick to comment on the video. One said: “Good luck Rod! My hero!” Another penned: “Cannot wait.” A third shared: “Sir Rod forever young. Stay strong. God bless.”
The post comes less than 24 hours after Sir Rod opened up about his support for Nigel Farage as he criticised Sir Keir Starmer.
He sensationally told The Times in an interview: โWeโre fed up with the Tories. Weโve got to give Farage a chance. Heโs coming across well.โ
While the musician has not shared his political views as of late with us, he stressed that despite being โextremely wealthyโ, he was not out of touch with the public.
Sir Rod said he had read about the Prime Minister’s 12-year fishing agreement with the European Union, which allows trawlermen from across the continent continued access to UK waters. โThat hasnโt made him popular,โ the singer lamented.
โStarmerโs all about getting us out of Brexit, and I donโt know how heโs going to do that,” Sir Rod noted.
He also suggested there was a reason to believe in Reform UK’s leader, saying: โWhat options have we got? I know some of his family, I know his brother, and I quite like him.โ
Since airing his views, the hitmaker looks focused on his Glastonbury comeback. He last headlined the festival on the Pyramid Stage in 2002.
He’s also set to do a 90-minute slot instead of a 75-minute one after “begging” organisers for a longer show.
Sir Rod shared: โUsually I do well over two hours, so thereโs still a load of songs we wonโt be able to do,โ he said. โBut weโve been working at it. Iโm not gonna make any announcements between songs.โ
Glastonbury 2025 can be watched on BBC iPlayer and listened to on BBC Sounds.
