Starmer, Streeting, Burnham and the bacon eater – who could be our next PM | Politics | News
Wes Streeting is out and the starting gun on a leadership race to see who will run the Labour Party – and the country – could soon be fired. The Daily Express looks at who the runners and riders are, inlcuding how they voted in the historic vote to leave the EU.
REMAIN – Keir Starmer

The incumbent Prime Minister, Sir Keir would automatically be on any ballot.
With a thumping majority in parliament, he’s likely to campaign on advancing the work his government has already set out – including a reset with the EU.
Trying to set out any new direction, aside from going further on existing plans, is unlikely.

REMAIN – Andy Burnham

The so-called ‘King of the North’, the Mayor of Manchester is a popular choice with the Labour faithful.
A darling of the left, he is very conscious of his own brand, and is commonly seen dressing in snappy suits and depicting himself as a non-London focused champion of the North.
But he’d need to find an MP to fall on their sword and step down, so he could try and get into parliament in a by-election.
