Super Bowl 2026 live updates: Latest reaction, news and odds for Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots

Not typically one for hyperbole, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald was effusive in his praise of Sam Darnold, noting how well the quarterback played despite being limited by an oblique injury.

โ€œTo come out the way he played for barely practicing, barely throwing the ball, is really incredible,โ€ Macdonald said with a laugh. โ€œIt should go down as one of the best performances in playoff history, I imagine. Itโ€™s hard to stack it, but I canโ€™t imagine anyone playing any better.โ€

In a follow-up question, Macdonald was asked about the narrative of Darnold making big mistakes in big games. He interrupted the reporter to say,

โ€œYeah, I love it. Keep talking. Everyone wants to make a narrative about this guy, but heโ€™s been the same guy since he walked in the door,โ€ Macdonald said. โ€œYou donโ€™t want me writing the stories, because I would not write the narratives that are out there. I would be really boring, like, โ€˜This guyโ€™s the man. And his teammates love him, and heโ€™s competitive as crap, and heโ€™s tough. And heโ€™s really talented. And heโ€™s a winner.โ€™ That would be the story.โ€

He added with a smile, โ€œSo donโ€™t let me write the story.โ€
