Tony Blair wages war on Keir Starmer, Andy Burnham and Wes Streeting | Politics | News

Former Labour leader and Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair is set to continue his attacks on Labour today with a series of TV appearances. He has accused his old party of having no “plan” to govern Britain – and said potential leadership candidates hoping to replace Sir Keir Starmer, such as Andy Burnham and Wes Streeting, have failed to come up with ideas either.

Sir Tony said: “Trying to force the prime minister out before we know what policy direction weโ€™re bringing in is not a serious way of conducting ourselves.”

And he warned: “The governmentโ€™s principal problem isnโ€™t Keirโ€™s personality. Or a failure to communicate โ€˜our achievementsโ€™. Or a need to assert more strongly Labourโ€™s โ€˜valuesโ€™.

“It is because we donโ€™t have a worked-out, coherent plan for the country in a fast-changing world and are in the wrong political position from which we can devise one and win a second term.”

Sir Keir Starmer will today continue his efforts to prove he is getting on with the job despite choas in his party when he meets the Polish President and former Eurocrat Donald Tusk to sign a security deal.
