“Washington, D.C. will be LIBERATED today! Crime, Savagery, Filth, and Scum will DISAPPEAR. I will, MAKE OUR CAPITAL GREAT AGAIN! The days of ruthlessly killing, or hurting, innocent people, are OVER! I quickly fixed the Border (ZERO ILLEGALS in last 3 months!), D.C. is next!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT”

Just before that, he wrote on the same platform:

“LIBERATION DAY IN D.C. WE ARE TAKING OUR CAPITAL BACK!!!”

Before the attack on Coristine, the brutal killing of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim outside of a Jewish museum in D.C. in May also drew international headlines.

Elias Rodriguez, the suspect in that attack, was last week indicted on federal hate crimes.

“I take exception to that,” said former D.C. homicide detective Ted Williams, siding with Mayor Muriel Bowser over the official statistics pointing in the opposition direction to the president’s rhetoric.

Here’s a look at the atmosphere in DC right now to set the scene for Trump’s announcement a little later.

Good news if you thought this was all sounding too heavy.

The president will also be speaking about “Cleanliness and the General Physical Renovation and Condition of our once beautiful and well maintained Capital,” he says.

There’s also a further, veiled dig at Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell in there and a rather patronizing compliment for D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.

The vicious attack on Edward Coristine last weekend, which saw him badly beaten by a group of juvenile carjackers in the early hours of the morning, appears to have been the inciting incident behind the president’s actions.

As part of Trump’s crackdown, it has been reported that the president is sending in 120 FBI agents on overnight shifts to help local law enforcement battle crime in the district.

Publicising his press conference yesterday, Trump declared on Truth Social: “I’m going to make our Capital safer and more beautiful than it ever was before.”

He added: “The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital.

“The Criminals, you don’t have to move out. We’re going to put you in jail where you belong.”

While Trump has threatened to “federalize” Washington after claiming violent crime is “out of control” in the capital, police figures found rates had actually dropped 35 percent there in 2024 alone.

The president has announced that he will be holding a press conference at 10am ET (3pm GMT) today to address what he says is the “out of control” state of violent crime in Washington, D.C, a verdict not supported by the official figures.
