US Open live: Raducanu-Alcaraz take on Draper-Pegula in mixed doubles

Raducanu on the board

Raducanu finds herself in a spot of bother on serve but there are smiles all around – and cheers from the crowd – as she holds to 30, Alcaraz smashing in to seal the game. The pair seem to be having a lot of fun so far.

Draper backs up break

Draper is looking fired up in the early stages of this one. He gets into a rally with his compatriot and seals it with a volley, combining booming groundstrokes with some decent movement around the net.

The pair quickly lead 2-0 – although itโ€™s mostly been Draper doing the work so far.

Draper/Pegula seal early break

Loud cheers, as you would expect, as Alcaraz steps up to serve.

But a mishap of a volley from Raducanu, some deft net play from Draper and an Alcaraz error sees them go 0-40 down…

Alcaraz saves one break point, but Draper fires in a forehand to secure an early break!

Play underway shortly

The next set of first-round matches will be underway very shortly, with Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu the star attraction for UK audiences – just on opposite sides of the net.

They partner Jessica Pegula and newly-crowned Cincinnati champion Carlos Alcaraz respectively.

Over on Louis Armstrong, thereโ€™s plenty of US interest as Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton take on Amanda Animisova and Holger Rune, the fourth seeds.

Errani/Vavassori move one step closer to defending their crown

Vavassoriโ€™s reflexes are just stunning as he recovers from a Rublev body serve, firing away at the net to retrieve one point of the deficit. The pair share a nice hug at the net.

Now the Italian pair roar as they nullify the mini-break entirely, Erraniโ€™s deft touch coaxing an error from Rublev, who fires long for 4-4.

โ€œForzaโ€ shouts Errani as she lobs to lead 5-4. Vavassori has two serves… their opponents send it long to hand the Italians match point.

Rublev goes long again and the Italians are into the semi-finals! The pair bump heads and scream with delight. It means an enormous amount to these two. 4-1, 5-4.

Tie-break to decide second set

Errani holds to send this one to a tie-break. Over on Arthur Ashe, Swiatek/Ruud lead 3-2 in another close second set.

And itโ€™s Muchova and Rublev who get an early mini-break, the Czech lobbing the ball over the head of Vavassori.

An error from the Italian sees them fall 3-1 behind, and Muchova blasts a cross-court forehand which skims past Rublev, stunning her partner! He grins and gestures as if to say it nearly took his ear off.

They lead 4-2 at the change of ends.

Crunch time on Louis Armstrong

The crowd goes wild! Muchova and Rublev dig very, very deep in the Czechโ€™s service game over on Louis Armstrong, withstanding a barrage at the net to dink the ball over the net and seal the deciding point for 4-3. The pair look very relieved and celebrate passionately.
