Wimbledon 2025 live: Tennis scores as Heather Watson battles in searing heat before Dan Evans v Jay Clarke

Jessica Pegula does have a bit of strapping on her left knee but even so, thatโ€™s a pretty big shock. The American hasnโ€™t always had the best time of things on grass but looked to have put that behind her in Germany last week, beating Iga Swiatek impressively in the final. Her 2025 Wimbledon singles campaign is, however, at an abrupt end.

Heather Watson is staying in the battle against Clara Tauson in the second set, though the Dane does still have the advantage of a break as she looks to draw level in the match. Itโ€™s 4-3 on Court 12.

Third seed Jessica Pegula stunned in first round!

What an upset! The third seed Jessica Pegula is OUT of Wimbledon! Winner of the Bad Homburg Open at the weekend, but the American couldnโ€™t get her game going at all and tumbles to an uber-impressive performance from Italyโ€™s Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-2, 6-3.

Jessica Pegula on her way out of Wimbledon?

More strife for Jessica Pegula – Elisabetta Cocciaretto is two games away from the second round after breaking again in the second set! Itโ€™s 4-3 with the balls in the hand of the Italian. Well well well.

A scorching cross-court forehand passing shot from Heather Watson is simply too good for Clara Tauson, but a booming ace that claps into the back wall beyond the beaten Brit ensures she consolidates her lead once more.

A hold apiece after that Clara Tauson break leaves the Dane just in front at 2-1 in the second.

Over on Court 2, Jessica Pegula remains in a predicament, unable to force anything against Elisabetta Cocciaretto through six games. She needs to take the second set to remain in the tournament.

Clara Tauson breaks

The long break is followed by, well, a break – whatever Clara Tauson was doing in between sets seems to have worked, though Heather Watsonโ€™s failure to land a first serve does give her something of a helping hand. Will that be the foothold the powerful Dane needs?

A bit of a worry as Clara Tauson disappears for some time between sets. Heather Watson is out on court and ready to serve – still we wait, though, for the Dane to re-emerge.

Eventually, here she comes. Let us hope that all is ok – you donโ€™t want to be struggling with an ailment or injury in these conditions.

Tommy Paul has taken out the first set 6-4 against Johannus Monday.

Jessica Pegula falls behind

Now then. A grass-court winner for the first time on Saturday, out of Wimbledon on Tuesday? Itโ€™s a real stumble out of the blocks from Jessica Pegula, tipped by some as a possible contender after that Bad Homburg Open win but already a set behind to Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who is serving superbly.

Heather Watson races to first set!

Ooh, this is some showing so far from Heather Watson. Broken early in the set, Watson reels off five straight games to snare it 6-2, with her return game particularly impressive. 23rd seed Clara Tauson is in a spot of real bother.

Another Brit keeping their cool is Katie Boulter, peering out from under an umbrella as she watches partner Alex de Minaur play Roberto Carballes Baena over on Court 18. After beating Spanish opposition yesterday in fine fashion, Boulter will be hoping her fiancรฉ can do likewise.

De Minaur is a tricky player to figure out, seemingly always on the cusp of a breakthrough run at the majors but almost invariably finding himself out in the quarter-finals. A breach of Carballes Baenaโ€™s serve in game five represents a strong start.

Meanwhile, a break for Heather Watson, really starting to attack the serve of Clara Tauson and nudging her nose very much in front.
