Every morning when I enter the media centre, I pluck a white sheet of paper out of the wooden pigeon holes. It’s a list of all the Royal Box guests. There are 77 today and I quite enjoy browsing who is among the esteemed guests.

Today we have the HRH The Princess of Wales, ambassador of the Czech Republic (for obvious reasons), the CEOs of Rolex and Ralph Lauren, BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning actresses Jodie Foster and Hannah Waddingham as well as British director Sam Mendes.

Former women’s singles champions Billie Jean King, Simona Halep, Marion Bartoli, Petra Kvitová, Maria Sharapova and Martina Navratilova are also here.

But the one that catches my eye is the most decorated Olympic freestyle skier Eileen Gu. The description next to her name reads: “Chinese-American freestyler skier and model.”

She is also the fourth highest-paid female athletes in the world, according to Forbes’ 2025 rankings. Tennis stars Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek top the list.

But Gu, who earns $23.1m a year, sits above Madison Keys, Naomi Osaka and way beyond today’s women’s finalists Karolina Muchová and Linda Nosková.
