Zack Polanski’s popularity slumps after Golders Green Police row | Politics | News
He is below Tory leader Kemi Badenoch, who has a net score of minus 6, Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey, on minus 12 and Reform UK’s Nigel Farage, on minus 16. Sir Keir Starmer is more unpopular than Mr Polanski with a net rating of minus 45.
The tumble comes after Mr Polanski sparked a backlash for sharing a social media post suggesting police were too heavy-handed with the Golders Green suspect.
More in Common’s UK director, Luke Tryl, said: “Just looking over some data ahead of our elections webinar later, and Zack Polanskiโs net approval rating has fallen by a fairly chunky 14 points over the last week.
“Still far ahead of Starmer, but also puts him now well below the top three of Badenoch, Davey and Farage.
“Looking at the numbers, itโs both a rise in negatives and a fall in positives, in particular, more young people seem to have shifted from ‘good job’ to ‘neither good nor bad job’. So a mix of more disapproval and more uncertainty.”
Mr Polanski was at the centre of controversy last week after retweeting the X post condemning officers for kicking the suspect in the Golders Green attack while arresting him.
Politicians from other parties rounded on him, while the head of the Met Police, Sir Mark Rowley, wrote him a strongly-worded letter rebuking him.
Mr Polanski subsequently apologised for โsharing a tweet in hasteโ, adding: โPolice responses to emergency situations such as these do need later reflection in the right forums, but I accept that social media is not the appropriate channel for doing so.โ
