Zarah Sultana thrown out of Commons for extraordinary ‘barefaced liar’ rant | Politics | News
Zarah Sultana has been thrown out of the Commons chamber by Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle in an extraordinary showdown after calling Sir Keir Starmer a “barefaced liar”.
The Your Party MP now faces a likely suspension from the Commons for five days for failing to withdraw her comment about the Prime Minister.
Left-winger Ms Sultana is a former Labour MP and now a member of Your Party alongside Jeremy Corbyn.
In a question, the Your Party MP (Coventry South) said: โWe all know that the Prime Minister appointed Mandelson because he owes his job to him. He appointed him, he defended him, and now he claims to know nothing.
โHe is gaslighting the nation. So letโs call this out for what it is. The Prime Minister is a bare-faced liar.โ
Sir Lindsay said: โLeave now, Iโll name you otherwise, Iโd go now if I were you.
โIโve given the option to name. Iโd leave if I were you, very quickly.โ
Ms Sultana attempted to interject and said: โI have a duty to the House to tell the truth.โ
Sir Lindsay held a vote, brought by Government whip Gen Kitchen which said: โI beg to move that Zarah Sultana be suspended from the services of the House.โ
โLeave, Iโm sorry youโve done this, I really am,โ Sir Lindsay said.
Sir Keir was answering questions in the Commons over his decision to appoint Lord Peter Mandelson as the UK’s ambassador to the US following the revelation he failed security vetting.
