Elon Musk backs Restore Britain in crucial Burnham by-election | Politics | News

But Nigel Farage’s Reform UK were hot on the heels of the would-be Labour leadership challenger, as their candidate Robert Kenyon secured 40% of the vote share in the survey by Survation for the Sunday Times. However in a surprising finding, Rupert Lowe’s Right-wing party Restore Britain took third place with 7%, ahead of Greens, Lib Dems and Conservatives.

Reform UK were quick to jump on the poll telling the electorate if they ‘vote Restore’ they would ‘get Burnham’. Restore Britain could be seen as a natural rival to take Reform UK votes and now billionaire Elon Musk, 54, thrown his significant social media weight behind the party.

Taking to the X social media platform today (Sunday), Mr Musk reposted words from Rupert Lowe and captioned it simply “Restore Britain”. Mr Lowe had been writing about fledgling his party being “under brutal assault by the establishment”.

He added that Restore Britain would not just “reform the establishment” but “destroy it,” vowing to “dismantle the system.”

Mr Burnham is hoping to win the seat so he can return to Westminster as an MP and embark on what many believe will be a leadership battle with Sir Keir Starmer for the keys to Number 10.

The Greater Manchester Mayor said support for him would be a โ€œvote to change Labourโ€ as he launched his campaign to win the Makerfield seat. Putting the boot in on the current Prime Minister, Mr Burnham said Labour โ€œneed to be better than we have beenโ€ and promised to give voters โ€œthe party back they used to knowโ€.

Mr Musk had previously been a supporter of Reform UK, but he has since withdrawn that support and said last year that Mr Farage “doesn’t have what it takes” to lead the party.

Last month Mr Musk accused Mr Farage of “lying” after the Reform UK leader claimed he had turned down the tech billionaire’s money. The world’s richest man flatly denied it.

Mr Lowe last year had a bitter split with Reform UK after it was alleged he made physical threats to the Reform chairman, Zia Yusuf. Mr Lowe firmly denied the allegations and faced no charges. He went on to found his own party, Restore Britain.
