Day 8 at the French Open sees the round of 16 kick off today.

Iga Świątek (3) is eliminated after losing in straight sets 7-5, 6-1 to Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk (15). It is Kostyuk’s first quarterfinal appearance at Roland Garros in her career.

Kostyuk will face Elina Svitolina (7) in the quarterfinals in an all-Ukrainian matchup. Svitolina rallied from a set down to outlast Belinda Bencic (11) in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Mirra Andreeva (8) then surged past Jil Teichmann in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

On the men’s side, Alexander Zverev (2) continues his path to his first Slam title, advancing to the quarterfinals with a dominant straight-set victory over Jesper De Jong.

The marquee round of 16 match in men’s singles is Casper Ruud (15) facing the Brazilian teenager João Fonseca (28), which is underway on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
