Moment Rachel Reeves is heckled at petrol station – ‘you’re ruining the country!’ | Politics | News
Rachel Reeves hit back at a heckler who repeatedly shouted at her at a petrol station today. The Chancellor was speaking to the media at the garage in Leeds after announcing a planned hike in fuel duty would be scrapped.
But she was interrupted by a man driving a truck with two St Georgeโs flags on the roof. The heckler said: โNigel Farage, go on Nigel.”
He added: โYouโre ruining the country. Get Keir Starmer out.โ
As he left the station he said out of the window: โIโve got British flags on.
โAm I going to get arrested? Weโve got English flags on here, Rachel, am I going to get arrested? Look at Rachel Reeves there, with a smile on her face.โ
Ms Reeves shouted back: โI love our country. I love our country, and one of the things about our country is good manners. Not very British.โ
Reform leader Nigel Farage said on X: “Iโd like to buy this man a pint. Does anyone know how I can find him?”
It comes as Labour made its latest U-turn, reversing the planned fuel duty increase after the Iran war sent prices soaring.
Tehran’s restrictions on tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz mean the average price of a litre of petrol and diesel at UK forecourts is 26p and 44p respectively more expensive than before the conflict started on February 28.
Rates were previously planned to increase by 1p per litre on September 1, with a pair of 2p per litre rises on December 1 this year and March 1 next year.
Shadow Chancellor Sir Mel Stride said: “Labour’s fuel tax hike would have hurt businesses and hammered hardworking families already stretched to breaking point. For months, I’ve been calling for Reeves to axe her fuel tax hike.
“After Conservative pressure, Reeves has finally been forced into a U-turn.
“Under the Conservatives, fuel duty was frozen or cut for 14 years in a row. Labour wanted to put it up during a cost of living crisis. That tells you everything. Families canโt afford Labour.”
